Step 1: Use a Piece of String or Ribbon
If you don’t have a measuring tape, a flexible item like string, ribbon, or even a shoelace can serve as a substitute. Follow these steps:
Measure Your Band Size:
Wrap the string snugly around your ribcage, just under your bust.
Mark where the string overlaps, ensuring it is level and secure.
Lay the string flat on a surface and use any standard measuring tool, such as a ruler or yardstick, to measure its length in inches.
Measure Your Bust Size:
Wrap the string around the fullest part of your bust, ensuring it stays level around your back.
Mark the overlap point and measure the string as before.
Step 2: Use a Piece of Paper
If string or ribbon isn’t available, paper can work as an alternative:
Cut or fold the paper into strips, ensuring they are uniform in width (e.g., one inch wide).
Wrap the strips around your ribcage and bust, marking where they overlap.
Count the number of strips used and multiply by their width to calculate the measurements.
Step 3: Use Body Proportions
For a very rough estimate, you can use body proportions:
Band Size Estimate:
Measure using your hand span. Most adult hand spans measure about 7-8 inches. Wrap your hands around your ribcage just below the bust and count how many hand spans fit. Multiply the number by the approximate width of your hand span.
Bust Size Estimate:
Follow the same process as above, but measure around the fullest part of your bust.
Step 4: Calculate Your Bra Size
Once you have your band and bust measurements:
Band Size: Round the measurement to the nearest even number.
Cup Size: Subtract the band measurement from the bust measurement. Use the difference to determine your cup size:
1 inch = A
2 inches = B
3 inches = C
4 inches = D
And so on.
Tips for Accurate Measurements
Wear a non-padded bra or go braless to get the most accurate bust measurement.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed while measuring.
